This is an advanced tutorial still in development. If you have any questions on the terms and/or concept please send an email or give us a call.
One of the most frequent support requests we receive is from users who can't send email when they travel. The reason for this is a security setting that most ISPs are adopting called "port 25 blocking". Port 25 is the native (and default) port number that email programs use to send outbound email. When an ISP blocks port 25 it prevents Internet users from outside their network from reaching and sending email on the ISPs email servers. It also prevents users on the ISPs network from reaching outbound email servers on other networks. Users can still send email by using the ISPs designated email servers since they are on the inside of the ISPs firewall. This gives the ISP a great deal of control over who can and who can't send email. The theory is that this cuts down on spam.
The trouble starts when you try to send email when you are connected to another network other than your home (or office) ISP. Maybe you're at a hotel, a coffee shop, or visiting someone and you get an error message trying to send email. Good news, Infologistix can help. We offer all of our email hosting customers an alternate port outgoing email server that we like to call "Road Warrior" email. You too can become a "Road Warrior" by following these simple steps:
Many ISP's will instruct you to use their outgoing (SMTP) email settings with all of your email accounts. Unfortunately this will wipe out your "Road Warrior" settings. In that case just revisit this tutorial and set things up again.
